Manager, European Regional Service

As manager, Sadia has overall responsibility for the operation, development and marketing of CE's European Regional Service which analyses the European economies in regional detail. The work includes running and maintaining the European Regional Model (EUREGM) and the detailed European Regional Databank with consistent and coherent indicators for all current and new member states at NUTS 2 level, as well as overseeing the production of the European Service report European Regional Prospects.

Sadia also specialises in managing projects which involve the application of econometric modelling techniques and other quantitative methods to understand regional and local economic development, with a particular specialisation in labour market and housing analysis. She has had overall responsibility for a range of projects for public and private sector clients. Public sector clients she has worked with include the European Commission (DG REGIO), the Department for Work and Pensions, Health and Safety Executive, West Midlands Regional Observatory, East of England Development Agency, Government Office for the East of England, the Merseyside Partnership and Yorkshire Forward. Her more recent projects include:a study of the best and worst performing European regions to identify the key drivers of regional growth for DG REGIO, evaluating the employment impact of the successful implementation of planned strategic projects in the Liverpool City Region; using GIS technqiues to explore spatial variations in personal incomes at a relatively fine level of geographical disaggregation for the DWP; a quantitative assessment of the 'City Region' Growth and Prosperity Strategy for the West Midlands Regional Observatory to evaluate how this plan could deliver and create strategic added value for the West Midlands City Region; an econometric analysis of the relationship between health and safety activity and businesses' economic performance in the UK economy for the Health & Safety Executive; an analysis of the economic prospects for the Thames Gateway South Essex subregion for the East of England Development Agency; a detailed economic assessment of the future economic and social trends within the East of England, to highlight the areas of focus for implementation EEDA's Regional Economic Strategy ‘A Shared Vision’ (2004); an econometric analysis of the employment and housing impact of a second runway at Stansted Airport for the Government Office for the East of England; an econometric analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the Department for Work and Pensions' modernisation programme; an analysis of the role of management on the performance of DWP branches; forecasts of house-price trends at district level for a major housebuilder; a study of the Peak Ring Area to identify the main economic centres within the subarea, and to identify the dynamic relationships and commuting patterns between these centres by qualifications and occupations. She has also had primary responsibility for preparing monthly bespoke economic briefings for a regional development agency and an annual Labour Market Briefing for the DWP.

She is a member of CE's team of trainers that provides in-house econometrics training courses for GES economists. This involves presenting courses on Introductory Econometrics and Economic Model Assessment using the EViews software package.

She graduated in 1999 from the University of Oxford with a Masters degree in Economics.
